Hurdy-Gurdy finished. An absolute marvel of engineering! Tuning and practising to follow .....

I've been waiting for this hurdy gurdy to come out for a few months now. I was really pleased that they did NOT have any of the infamous toothpicks in this design. Instead it's held by many pegs and well placed pieces. There's even a hammer to tap pieces into place. Overall, I'm really pleased with this model. I wish I could find more like it. :)

This kit was easy to put together and the pictures were very clear. Take special care with the wheel and the sound will be proper. Mine was painted with watered down acrylic and it allowed the wood grain to show through. Recommend this kit for anyone

Please consider making plastic or metal versions that are more durable. My grandchildren loved the marble maze but it broke after an hour of kid play, FABULOUS while it lasted.

The kit was easy to build following the step-by-step illustrated instruction book. It took me 7 hours to complete, while watching movies on television.
I stained just the main soundbox panels. Very sturdy, but I am going to use real violin strings rather than the nylon it comes with, to improve the sound.

What fun it was putting this thing together. It will bring your family or friends together while you assemble it. And it looks pretty good when it's finished too. Got me wanting their other puzzles to see if they are as much fun to assemble.

I don't typically write review but I liked this so much I wanted to give my big 2 thumbs up. This was a super fun project. If nothing else, it's a fun conversation started to tell people you are making a hurdy gurdy. A what??? The pieces fit together magically and it is an interesting and attractive completed project. You have to pay close attention to the pictures in the instruction sheet, but that is part of the fun. It's sort of like a lego kit. If you like instruments, legos, models, etc. you should give this a try. I want to make some more things from this company.

This was a fun model to put together. Bonus, it’s a working instrument! Tip that not many people know - Put COTTON on the strings. I enjoyed building and playing it.

I love its design! The kit was very easy to build and comes with everything you need - it also has a hammer tool that you build to aid in the assembly process. All laser cut parts came out without a fuss and the instructions are clear and detailed. The instrument does play too. Overall fun to assemble and play!

The instructions are very clear, read them carefully and they will do you well. If something isn’t going together quite right, read them again, some things look like other things occasionally. . The instructions aren’t hieroglyphs, they’re quite good illustrations of exactly what to do, step by step. It is meant to be difficult, it’s not a child’s toy. The instrument will work if all the instruction are followed.

It looks soooooo stunning as a display piece in itself .. the design of the hurdy gurdy is pleasing to look at and everyone has been asking me where i got mine. I will be painting it soon and will post a new comment when i have completed painting.

I made this with my fiance and it was a weekend well spent, it actually is a great project for couples to work on. The pieces fit well together and the instrument feels sturdy. The book also had some basic songs that we played to after assembly.

The Mechanical Hurdy-gurdy was the first Mechanical model I've attempted to build. As a model, I'd have to give this an easy 5 stars...10 stars if I could. Everything about the model is first rate...the quality of the wood, the laser cutting, the instructions and the supplies that are included help to make building this model a really happy and enjoyable experience. The instructions are very clear though it is easy to overlook something that could be very important so proceeding carefully and not rushing through the build is very worthwhile.

I've been waiting for this hurdy gurdy to come out for a few months now. I was really pleased that they did NOT have any of the infamous toothpicks in this design. Instead it's held by many pegs and well placed pieces. There's even a hammer to tap pieces into place. It's cool enough that my husband was trying to steal it away while I was playing it. They include a few simple songs. This instrument is really easy to play and I was able to play a tune within a few minutes of picking it up. It's really beautiful and a lot larger than I expected. It's probably about the size of a ukulele.

The wood is quite durable, precision laser cut, and a lot of the pieces have extras in case you meat fist it, but don’t do that. There’s sandpaper for cleaning up the edges, use it. There’s wax for lubricating pieces so they go together easier, use it. The hammer you make is a great tool, use it instead of any actual tool, it’ll keep you from breaking things. The instructions are very clear, read them carefully and they will do you well!

There are 3 playable music sheets at the end of the build instructions. In simple tablature, with which number key to press. Has 7 note range from D to D. Very sturdy to play on.

Just completed this beauty!! Simply in love with how it looks on my wall along with my other instruments

I had an excellent time assembling my hurdy-gurdy kit from Puralty, and
the customer service I recieved was 10 out of 10. When my first hurdy-gurdy
kit didn't arrive, I was worried that I would have to go through a long
process with many emails to figure out what happened to it. Judy responded
to my email within 24 hours and sent me a new one right away. The kit
itself had very comprehensive and easy to follow graphic instructions. The
materials were high quality and though breaking the pieces was a risk;
there were plenty of extras included in the set just in case. I will
definitely be buying from Puralty again!

Had a great time building two of these with my boyfriend. Took us a day, with some breaks for food and such. Take your time and be patient, wax the heck out of the things it says to wax, and take breaks for the sake of your hands. Had a blast building them, totally recommend!!

A really unique item for my musical instrument collection. Excellent materials, engineering, and assembly instructions!!! I can't wait to start building the next model. Warning however, these can be quite addicting if you like doing thing with your hands!!!

This was the most fun puzzle to assemble. It impressed my family and friends, and it sounds pretty nice for being a toy. This would be fun for a project for family to all be involved with.

The kit I purchased was the Hurdy gurdy. Great kit and highly recommended especially for first time builders as no modifications were needed to complete the kit.pieces are precision cut with no modifications other than some light sanding.directions are illustrated, simple and concise. Some spare parts are included in case of mishap. This kit took me seven hours but I was taking my time and I could have completed this in probably five hours if I pushed it.
Evelyn C.
This was easily one of the coolest wood-craft sets I have constructed. Some parts were tough to piece together since there's no glue and everything is hammered together, but at the end of the day you have an actual working model hurdy-gurdy.
One thing I would advise is to take great caution when assembling the main wheel-shaft. If you don't mount the wheel exactly flat and perpendicular to the shaft the wheel will wobble when you turn the crank, causing shifts in pitch as it plays.

This kit makes a beautiful piece to display on your shelf. I wouldn't call it a quality musical instrument, but it does play fairly well and makes an enjoyable conversation piece. The kit is very well made, parts fit nicely and assembly is surprisingly easy. The instructions are well done.
Dania D.
This is a very fun and detailed kit. Don't expect a musical instrument to rival what normally would cost thousands, but you can play tunes on it.Take the first few steps VERY slow to get the hang of how it goes together. Add stain if you want for a custom look. Overall, I had a great time building it.
Jayce W.
Amazing and a fun toy after it was all done. It comes with a built-a-hammer and its own wax and rosin.Just make the grooves in the wax it makes the waxing so much easier.
And tuning is fun and yes it's easy to tune but boy if you never had a string instrument I'm going to tell you the strings can take the pressure don't worry.
Scott T.
I assembled it in about 8 hours, it is time consuming, but you need to take your time and be careful or you’ll screw it up.

This is more of a toy than a real instrument. It's cool enough that my husband was trying to steal it away while I was playing it. They include a few simple songs. This "instrument" is really easy to play and I was able to play a tune within a few minutes of picking it up.

Wow! What fun it was putting this thing together. It will bring your family or friends together while you assemble it. And it looks pretty good when it's finished too. Got me wanting their other puzzles to see if they are as much fun to assemble.

I'm so happy with this piece, it's looks so good, the process to put it together was challenging, which is exactly what I wanted. the quality of the wood is great, the instructions are clear and well explained. I ordered the safe and putting it together.
Freth P.
Very challenging, you MUST pay attentions to your every move. To assembly some parts ,you will need small hammer. Guess what? It comes in the box, but you have to assemble it first :) Excellent pieces. Kit comes with everything you might need - strings, wax, etc. I'm extremely happy with this kit.
Chris X.
Another fantastic product. My fingers didn't mind this model having no toothpicks (i just finished up the train model). Also the added hammer tool will be great for future builds.Overall this was a relatively simple build. The only part that was a little challenging was the strings themselves only because i have larger hands and fingers so reaching into the neck to tie them off took some time. Total build time was about 3 hours or so.
Avan C.
The model is pure genius. The mechanical ingenuity is superb. It will take you 4-5 hours to assemble - but no glue, the parts are pre-cut with laser precision, the instructions are clear - and the result is excellent. There are several YouTube videos for fine tuning and tips/tricks. You will definitely want to wrap the strings in cotton fibers (where they touch the tone wheel).
Greg C.
Bought it for my niece for Christmas. She’s a bit young to assemble by herself, but eager to assist me. The assembly and mechanics are simply marvelous! Took me 5 hours to get it together, and a few hours to get the wheel the strums the strings centered (hint: after it was assembled I cranked the wheel and used a chisel to lightly shave the wheel like I was wood turning).Take your time with this, it’s a joy to assemble, gorgeous to look at.
Lawson R.
Now I only need to learn how to play a tune. This one was a joy to build and actually plays very well all things considered. It is not going to get me into a concert career but still fun to play with just knowing my hands built it. Just amazing what people can come up with. The engineering alone will have many in awe. Take your time, wax the gears for smooth operation, and you will get a working model worthy of display. One thing I would ask of the designers. Please think up new designs faster because you have me hooked?
